MARKET RESEARCH - Make sure you have a market!! You can use our competitor comparison tool to check how you compare to the top competitor in your field. Just enter the two domains and get some data back on some core differences. It will also let you know an expectation of click costs for your industry. If there is no market seeking your business, that’s ok it still may be valid by educating people via social media or direct contact channels such as LinkedIn’s Sales Navigator feature.
SCALABILITY - So often, completely overlooked, scalability can be the difference between A) having a business on the traditional battlefield we are typically accustomed to, or B) preparing yourself from the outset to be a National market leader with automated processes. The difference in initial outlay between the A and B can be virtually insignificant. The lifestyle & profit enhancement can be something else entirely. Scale concepts don't work for every business but its worthwhile raising the topic and seeing where it goes. We build dreams into reality btw!
BUDGET - Scared money don’t make money but we all have financial priorities. You should be setting A) a phase 1 budget $[ ]/month (make it significant but be sure to partner with a quality agency) and B) a percentage of marketing-generated-revenue for furthering the budget %[ ]. So place a value on a lead say $500 and when you get 10 of those a month you will put another 20% ($1000) onto the monthly budget. SYSTEMS - While this step is important it is also the point at which a lot of people get stuck and never get passed it. Choosing a CRM that connects to an accounting platform can help make light work of all your paperwork, finance management, communications & reporting. Need help with this? BASE - Your marketing base is your logo, your marketing visuals and themes. What’s your angle, who are you, whats your point of difference, how does your product or service grab ATTENTION and why should someone be drawn to you when they are faced with 10 other options which all seem basically the same except for some highly competitive, far-reaching offers from businesses compete with you and are willing to DO MORE to get the business. Is the first sale the be all and end all? or do you have your CRM and follow up process concreted in place to expand on that sale and create ‘lifetime’ clients. Also what is the buying cycle, how long should you spend energies remaining in front of an opportunity and when should you let go. What are the steps of capture and release inside your marketing funnel framework.
CIRCLES - A lot of people hate developing social media but it doesn’t need to be as painful as you think. You don’t HAVE to engage constantly with posts to develop a following. The ‘followings’ are created for you you just have to follow the right groups and search a keyword in Facebook occasionally. It will show you your prospects. But don’t stop there! Take a screenshot of the opportunities and keep them in a folder so when you get a moment you can throw them all to your CRM, which you use to automate follow up and build those lifetime relationships. Expand the groups you follow. Expand the social platforms and if you go to the effort of telling one group about a product or service why not raise the same query or post the same post to a bunch of different avenues. Keep a record of your posts and post them again if they worked!
REMARKETING - You can’t re-market to people that are either not in your CRM or have not visited your website. Maybe you want to be guiding your social media acquaintances to a landing page specific to their query so that you can automatically re-market to them. Maybe you’ve got an Email or SMS campaign running but no specific landing page link for them to click so you are not capturing those that are interested in this particular offering and not able to then hone a strong re-marketing strategy to get the business in.
CONVERSIONS - Are your web-mails converting to sales? Do you record the successes of different lead sources? Is your website focusing on the wrong lead capture? Are you generating a REAL reason with urgency, for your website visitor to call you? When they do call whats your hit rate that buy? What are the reasons some don't buy instantly and what are your solutions to seal this up. Are you able to establish that your value is the best available such that the prospect agrees with you that it is the best option available? do you have sweetener prepared? Are you asking… “Is there something we can do to get your business now?”, How many people answer the phones, who has the best close rate, what does their follow up look like? Are you aware that “I need to ask the partner” simply means “I have an issue” so simply ask them “Ok, what would your partners issue be?” …and then help them to remove the issue.
VISIBILITY - Do you have visibility of your 3rd parties that are performing work for your business? Are you paying them on a value based model or time for task.
Where possible: Work out what the tasks are, work out how many tasks can be achieved per hour, Work out what your expectation is and then make sure you have independent transparency on the work being delivered. Need suggestions? Tick the big number 8 to the left!

Sky-scraping is a term used in SEO to describe the process of reviewing your competitor and simply doing a little more than them to try to step in front of them in rank. It's not a button, it will still require time for Google to asses you against the ladder and climb you up it but its a fantastic starting point and way of gaining confidence in an SEO marketing plan.


What we find time and time again is a) that people are building clunky sites using wordpress or wix.
